ART
These pieces of art are drawings of the tools used for medical procedures back during the civil war era. On the left we have pliers. Pliers were used to remove bullets and shrapnel from the body. Can you imagine being awake and having a bullet or a piece of cannon ball removed from you using a pair of pliers. The pain is insane. And not to mention sanitation, they used this over and over without cleaning it. From person to person. The next picture on the right is a saw. In todays day and era when you hear saw, you think of a piece of wood getting sawed or something alone that line. Back then during the war saws where used to cut off limbs that were beyond repair. They never cleaned the saws and used ones with blood, rust, bone fragments, etc. I drew them and then soaked the paper in coffee ground to make it look like an old picture. The context of this portion is the coffee grounds aging the paper because it makes the paper look old and used.
English
For my English portion of my project, I wrote a poem. The point and reasoning behind my poem was to give it the old and Civil War era feel. I used old words and old slang to give it the old feel. The point of view from the poem is a first person point of view of a doctor from the Civil War. In the poem the doctor describes what it's like and what he sees on a daily basis. I tried to give it a feeling of the reader actually being there and seeing what is described in the poem. The context of my poem is the old wording and slang. It gives it context because it helps give the reader a older feel of a poem and a older feel of words.
